Wayne
Hill
Baritone Wayne Hill, one of the Gettysburg area’s
most talented and versatile voices, was born here in Gettysburg
and
graduated
from Susquehanna University with a B.A. in Economics in 1970. His
lifetime avocation started intensively at Susquehanna with the
study of vocal music. In the 1970’s he had the lead in three
musical productions at York Little Theater, Man of La Mancha, South
Pacific and Sound of Music and then in the 1890’s and early
90’s he had the baritone lead in ten different productions
at the Harrisburg Opera Company. Other musical credits include
singing in the St. James Lutheran Church Adult Choir for nearly
thirty years, being the professional soloist at Brown Memorial
Church in Baltimore for four years, many productions and concerts
at “Music, Gettysburg!”, singing in many civil war
remembrance events and community services in Gettysburg, and performing
with two small ensembles which travel throughout the central Pennsylvania
and northern Maryland areas presenting Civil War and Gospel concerts.
Most recently, Wayne appeared with the Harrisburg Symphony (then
directed by Richard Westerfield) in a concert version of Rigoletto
where he sang the part of Monterone and again with the Symphony
in the concert version of Puccini’s opera La Boheme singing
the role of Schaunard. The summer of 1998 saw Wayne appearing in
England and Scotland with a solo musical tour sponsored by “Music,
Gettysburg!”. In the summer of 1999 he was a member of a
musical tour of Wales singing with an ensemble directed by John “Buzz” Jones
and also participated in a musical Life is Looking Up written by
Judge Oscar Spicer and Bruce Van Dyke.
